Adolescence is a turbulent developmental time that youth are having to navigate by themselves. As a
result too many young people are
suffering from an "addiction to hopelessness.
It results from an ungrieved loss, which slips into a depression that is misdiagnosed and
goes untreated. This addiction to hopelessness has psychological, sociological and theological roots.
Holistic Mentoring is the antidote for this addiction. It is a two-step process that involves:
1: guiding a youth to adulthood.
2: insuring that the adult is more whole than the child.
The first and most important tenet of Holistic Mentoring is to "do no harm." It is the mission of the
Foston Institute for Holistic Mentoring to guide as many youth to adulthood as possible and to train as
many holistic mentors as possible who can help facilitate this difficult
developmental process.
